Sandra Bullock’s sister has shared information on the actress’s final moments spent with her longtime partner Bryan Randall before his death.
Tragically, the ‘Oceans 8’ actress lost her 57-year-old spouse to ALS, a condition he had long kept secret.
“With deep sadness, we announce that Bryan Randall peacefully passed away on August 5th, concluding a valiant 3-year battle against ALS,” his family said in a statement.
The family continued: “Bryan made the deliberate choice to keep his fight with ALS private, and those of us who cared for him diligently respected his wish.”
The statement went on: “We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the unwavering medical professionals who guided us through the complexities of this ailment, and to the exceptional nurses who became an integral part of our lives, often putting their own families aside to stand by ours. During this period, we kindly ask for privacy as we mourn and attempt to come to grips with the painful reality of bidding farewell to Bryan.”
Bullock’s sister, Gesine Bullock-Prado, paid tribute to the accomplished model-turned-photographer on Instagram and provided some rare insight into the couple’s final moments.
“I’m convinced that Bry has found the best fishing spot in heaven and is already casting his lure into rushing rivers teaming with salmon,” Gesine wrote alongside a cheerful photo of Randall on Monday (August 7).
Bullock had remained by his side before he passed away on Saturday, August 5, she added.
“ALS is a cruel disease but there is some comfort in knowing he had the best of caretakers in my amazing sister and the band of nurses she assembled who helped her look after him in their home,” Gesine continued. “Rest peacefully, Bryan.”
Randall passed away on Monday, according to his family, who also revealed that he had been battling an illness that damages the spinal cord and brain’s nerve cells.
Bullock, 59, and Randall met when the latter documented the birthday party of Bullock’s son Louis in January 2015. A few months later, the two started dating, and they appeared on the red carpet for the first time the following year.
Despite the ‘A Time to Kill’ actress’ penchant for privacy when it comes to her private life, she revealed on ‘Red Table Talk’ in December 2021 that Randall was the “love of [her] life.”
The ‘Lost City’ actress gushed at the time about their mixed family, which included Skylar, Randall’s daughter, and Louis and Laila, Sandra’s children.
Regarding co-parenting alongside Randall, she said: “He sets the example I wish my children to follow.”
She further explained that the pair hadn’t rushed to get married because their priority was putting the children first. “I don’t need a paper to be a devoted partner, devoted mother,” she said. “I don’t need to be told to be ever-present in the hardest of times. I don’t need to be told to weather a storm with a good man.”
Bullock has not yet released any words in the media on the death of her spouse.
Randall’s family has requested donations to the Massachusetts General Hospital and the ALS Association in place of flowers.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Bryan Randall’s friends and family, and Sandra Bullock at this difficult time.
