A BOEING 727 passenger plane was converted into a three bedroom home with a huge hot tub and bath in the cockpit.
The unusual Mississippi home was created by beautician Jo Ann Ussery after her previous house was destroyed by a winter storm – and it’s just plane awesome.
The idea came about by her brother-in-law, air traffic controller Bob Farrow, who encouraged Jo Ann to purchase an abandoned Boeing 727.
His suggestion led her to buy the plane – which ran from May 11, 1968 until September 20, 1993.
Jo Ann purchased the aircraft for $2,000 USD in 1994, had it relocated to Benoit, Mississippi, and refurbished it – mostly by herself.
However, some of the plane’s features were kept the same.
One of the plane’s bathrooms was kept as an aircraft lavatory and overhead luggage compartments were used as storage space.
Her dream house – nicknamed “Little Trump” after Donald Trump’s $16-million corporate jet – has three bedrooms, a living room, a full kitchen, a laundry room, and a master bathroom inside, Airport Journals reported in 2003.
Despite being on the ground, the plane gives the illusion that it’s still flying because the nose extends over a lake.
The cabin is about 12 feet wide, has 76 side windows, and 10 windows in the cockpit.
In an interview with NBC’s Today Show more than 20 years ago, Jo Ann said it cost approximately $30,000 to set up the plane with necessary heating, plumping, and electrical elements.
“The plane is 27 years old and it’s the best home in the world. It has all the things you want in a home,” Jo Ann said, according to Good News Center.
“A telephone, air conditioning, an oven, a washing machine even a dishwasher.”
She describe the plane as “very warm” and “very big, 42 meters long.”
Jo Ann added: “My grandchildren love running up and down. And my friends love parties here – but there aren’t any flight attendant to serve their drinks!
“Next time, I want a Boeing 747, not a 727, because they have an upstairs and a downstairs, and I want to go upstairs to bed.”
According to Airport Journals, Jo Ann only lived in the Boeing 727 between April 1995 to May 1999.
